El Chato at Gulfstream, Handsome Red at Del Mar – Horseracing Wrongs

10

The full “box score” note for 3-year-old El Chato in the 10th at Gulfstream yesterday: “El Chato tracked in the three path, sustained an injury approaching the quarter, pulled up turning into the stretch, and was euthanized.” Just another sporting result. The complicit: breeder Harper Ridge Thoroughbreds, owner/trainer Armando De La Cerda, jockey Miguel Vasquez, and all those who support the U.S. horseracing industry in any way – betting, attending, watching, working in, etc.

Also, Handsome Red, an “injured, transported off via ambulance” at Del Mar Saturday, has been confirmed dead. Curiously, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Handsome was euthanized on the track. No matter, he is gone, at three. The complicit: breeders/owners Rainmaker Racing and Bret Lewis, trainer Craig Lewis, jockey Kazushi Kimura, and all those who support the U.S. horseracing industry in any way.

Handsome is the third kill at Del Mar in the first two weeks of its summer meet. The track’s response? “Over the last five years, Del Mar has been among the safest racetracks in the country and California’s safety protocols have become a model for other jurisdictions. We are committed to maintaining the safest environment possible for racing and training here.” They are disgusting, aren’t they?
