Sports journalist on Donald Trump’s Saudi golf deals: “It’s an amazing trick”

After the negotiations between the PGA Tour and PIF, whose mediator was Donald Trump, a large number of reactions followed. The US president invited both sides to the White House, wanting to be an important figure in these negotiations, aware that golf is in a huge crisis.

Although many of those who support him are grateful that he wants to help golf, there is another side that criticizes him for his cooperation with the Saudis.

Namely, Trump caused anger from 9/11 families a few years ago because he allowed the LIV event to be held at his New Jersey Golf Course.

Trump further caused outrage after he held a meeting and supported PIF’s involvement in the world of golf.

The well-known face of sports, Pablo S. Torre, sportswriter, reacted to the latest events.

Torre believes that the US president wants to take advantage of this story, not so sure that Trump’s primary goal is to help golf. Torre referred to some earlier views of Donald Trump, aware that the US president had previously supported LIV and their ideas. Nevertheless, Torre feels that the primary goal of the US president is: Profit!

“Donald Trump has been foreshadowing for two years. Complaining about the PGA, welcoming business from LIV and Saudi Arabia, he’s been saying a merger is inevitable. ‘Anybody who is fighting LIV is going to lose. You might as well allow me, Donald Trump, to basically moderate a business merger.’ In which again, unsurprisingly, Donald Trump becomes a major winner because yes, now his business at his golf courses, the things he loves the most, they will get to profit in ways that are just very clearly corrupt given that he’s the president.”-Torre told Tim Miller on The Bulwark Podcast, as quoted by Awful announcing.

Pablo S Torre shares his views

A well-known sports writer believes that what the US president says is contradictory.

“It’s really an amazing trick that Trump is pulling where he gets to bathe in nationalism while being the direct business partner to Saudi Arabia. I’m trying to track what bigotries we want and which ones we don’t. I’m trying to track when foreignness is supposed to feel foreign and not like one of us. And it seems like the only through-line is are you giving Donald Trump money.”- he continued.

There are many similar views, but it is clear that if the US president wants the final agreement to become a reality, it will happen.

It was hard to imagine that the PGA and PIF could finally put an end to everything without the involvement of individuals like Trump.

However, we will see what his intentions are in this story, and whether he really looks primarily at himself, or whether he believes that he can be an important figure for the world of golf.
