Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen lost 5-4 to Wu Yize in the second round of the German Masters in Berlin.

Breaks of 53, 54, 50 and 56 helped Allen to a 4-2 lead, with his Chinese opponent compiling a run of 72 in winning frame four.

Wu put together breaks of 64 and 133 to draw level with the world number four and recent Riyadh Season Championship winner, before coming out on top in the deciding frame to secure his passage into the third round.

The world number 25 will face Alexander Ursenbacher in round three after the Swiss player earned an impressive 5-0 win against England’s Ali Carter.

Mark Selby also bowed out, losing 5-4 to Elliot Slessor, and Scotland’s John Higgins was beaten 5-3 by Wales’ World Championship runner-up Jak Jones. Jones will face England’s Kyren Wilson next in a repeat of the 2024 Crucible final.

Wilson finished with a break of 100 as he scored a 5-3 win against China’s Zhou Yuelong.

Defending champion Judd Trump had five breaks of 75 or above, capped by a closing run of 100 to seal his 5-0 victory against Joe O’Connor, while Neil Robertson made four centuries but was still pushed to a decider by Hammad Miah – the Australian surviving to win 5-4 and set up a match against Trump on Thursday.

Shaun Murphy continued his fine recent form and the Masters champion has yet to drop a frame in Germany, his second 5-0 victory of the tournament coming against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh to book a meeting with Yuan Sijun.
