Irondequoit football plans to ‘open a lot of eyes’
Irondequoit football players Sebastian Reidmiller, Cam Freeman, Myles Wynn, Taiden Makubire and Andrew Long have high hopes this season.
IRONDEQUOIT — One season after clawing into the postseason without their starting quarterback, Irondequoit has their signal caller back.
Coach Dan Fichter’s Eagles’ offense will be back intact as senior quarterback Taiden Makubire returns under center. Makubire missed the end of the 2023 campaign with an injury while his Eagles shuffled quarterbacks and used a wildcat offense to clinch the postseason.
Makubire can sling it, but so can sophomore lefty Eric Torres III, who transferred from Victor after starting a few games during the Blue Devils’ unbeaten start last fall. Irondequoit has packages with Makubire and Torres on the field at the same time. They can run or throw it to promising sophomore receivers like Josh Barr and Brian Walker.
Cam Freeman and Myles Wynn are both dynamic running backs who’ll also play simultaneously. Freeman and Wynn are physical, fast players who also track the ball at linebacker. Wynn is the middle backer and Freeman covers plenty of ground outside. Andrew Long, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound guard, and Sebastian Reidmiller will lead the ground game alongside linemen hovering over 290 and 270 pounds.
“The group that graduated left us with a really good culture. The teaching progressions have been smoother,” Fichter said.

Marquee matchups for Irondequoit
If you know anything about Irondequoit, the Eagles are not looking past their Week 1 game against crosstown rival Eastridge. Irondequoit’s schedule won’t allow for any setbacks with Webster Thomas, Webster Schroeder and Spencerport filling the Eagles’ September slate.
“It’s great to play Eastridge. Normally, Irondequoit or Eastridge is at the top of the heap every year. It’s always going to be a good game. And it’s fun,” Fichter said.
