PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Pat Hobbs has tendered his resignation as Athletic Director effective immediately. University President Jonathan Holloway selected Ryan Pisarri, Deputy Athletic Director for Competitive Excellence and Chief of Staff, to serve as Interim Athletic Director.

Hobbs, who was hired in November of 2015, cited health-related issues for his departure. His tenure was marked by unprecedented success both in competition and in the classroom with Big Ten Championships, NCAA Tournament berths and record-setting milestones across the board. In 2022-23, Rutgers achieved its highest-ever finish in the Learfield Directors’ Cup as Rutgers placed 48th overall with a school record nine teams appearing in the national rankings.

The  “R B1G Build” raised over $100 million in helping to construct The Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center, the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center, the Brown Family Football Locker Room, the Marco Battaglia Football Practice Complex, the Fred Hill Training Complex, the Garutti Strength and Conditioning Center, the Druskin Strength and Conditioning Center and the Abe Suydam Men’s Basketball Locker Room. Additional facility improvements included new playing surfaces at Bainton Field and the Rutgers Softball Complex as well as new locker room areas for softball, field hockey, cross country, and track and field.

Pisarri is entering his 14th season with Rutgers Athletics and is a member of the athletic director’s executive team and also the liaison to the Rutgers University Board of Governors. In his role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and manages all aspects of sport administration. He also chaired the Rutgers Athletics five-year strategic vision, “The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence”.
