CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas head coach said his coaching staff will be looking at a lot of different things at Saturday morning’s second scrimmage of fall camp.
The Bears will hit “The Stripes” at 9 a.m. Saturday.
“We have our last big evaluation day Saturday morning,” said Brown, who will lead the Bears into their season opener on Aug. 31 at Arkansas State. “We are excited to watch position battles continue to unfold. I thought last Saturday we had a quality scrimmage in front of officials and we get a chance to see how much we have improved, under the same circumstances, in a week.”
Brown said the Bears are battling the heat, among other things, with 14 practices under their belt.
“The guys are pushing through some tough elements right now,” he said. “I have been pleased with the fight we have every day in the heat. The emphasis has been playing with bend and pad level when you’re tired. That is obviously easier said than done, so you have to practice it. We have tried to put them in stressful situations to watch how they respond.”
The season opener is now just 15 days away, a fact not lost on Brown.
“We will get good work in Saturday and come back Sunday and have a heavy special teams day leading up to the first week of classes,’ he said. “It is almost time to turn the page to Arkansas State and we are looking forward to that.
“We still have a few opportunities to better ourselves against one another before we start prep for the Red Wolves.”
