Plenty with chances, slight preference is for COMEIN COMEIN to regain the winning thread, this fast five furlongs will be right up his street. Recent winners Rappell and Emerald Harmony lead the list of dangers, which also includes Limoncello Lady, I’m Spartacus and Buddy Batt, the latter looking a good each-way option.
Although Olympus Point looks the one to beat he was only third at 1-2 last time and could be vulnerable again at short odds. Arbitration and Native Instinct are two others with claims, but the vote goes to THUNDER WONDER, who ran so well at Newmarket on his debut.
May Call You Back probably has more to give for Willie Mullins after winning at Tipperary last month on yard debut but she has to prove herself over this longer trip. It may be worth taking a chance on EMILY IN PARIS, who has a workable mark to play with after two promising runs in beginners’, and she’s a likely improver stepping up in distance. Thehairyfella is another to consider after a promising run when making his debut for Gordon Elliott on his penultimate start.
A maiden that wouldn’t look out of place at a festival can go to SCANDINAVIA, who badly needed the experience on his Leopardstown debut three weeks ago, when coming home nicely after jumping a path early and running green. Sandown second Vecu is an obvious danger, while the well-related 1,000,000gns purchase Arabian Poet is a fascinating newcomer.
This has an open look to it. The maiden success for KAILASA had been coming and she accounted for a useful horse in the process. Well-bred and uncomplicated, there’s more to come from her. Profit Refused ran well in a strong handicap at the Curragh last time and returns to a more suitable trip here. Serialise is preferred of the others.
New Kings Road (second choice) has to be respected after winning two of his last five turf handicaps, but HEY LYLA is only 1lb higher than her Hamilton win in June, and this stiff 1m was no problem to her last summer. Arika, who bore down late on the principals on the AW last time out, is another danger now back on turf.
Last time out scorers Safran Et Bleu and Scottish Dancer should go well again, though the drop in trip is a worry for the former and the latter is due to run here on Thursday. Handicap debutantes The Great Unknown and Olivine Queen are both interesting and Down The Park could outrun her likely odds. New Year Honours won well on the level last time but a chance is taken on PAT COYNE. The locally trained C&D winner likes it here. He shaped well last time out, and Aidan Kelly has won on him before.
None of these come into this at the top of their game and it could pay to go with MODERN TIMES, who had several of today’s rivals behind him when sixth on his stable/handicap debut at York last time. The well-handicapped Ingleby Ivy is another to consider.
