The Sartai Horse Race, held in Dusetos, was first run over 200 years ago. Unfortunately, the race was canceled in 2023 as temperatures were too high to hold the contest on the ice due to safety concerns.
Race organizers are exploring how they can keep the race going despite the challenges of climate change. Major reconstruction plans are being discussed with the government and municipality. Horse racing fans in Lithuania and abroad will be hoping the race returns in 2024.
Tallinn International Horse Show
The Tallinn International Horse Show was first staged in 2002 and since then it has grown every year, making it one of the leading horse shows in the world. It takes place annually in October in Saku Suurhall in Tallinn, Estonia over three days. Big crowds attend all three days of the equestrian sports competition.
The most prestigious competition at the Tallinn International Horse Show is the Horse Show Grand Prix and FEI World Cup. It was won in 2023 by Estonia Madis Morna (Herbert). Estonians have a great record in this event as they have won it six times since it was inaugurated in 2002, the most by any nation in the world.
Organized by the Estonia Equestrian Federation, the event recently was upgraded from a two-star to a three-star competition. This ensures that the competitors receive more Longines-ranking points. It also helps attract more funding, which helps it continue to grow as one of the biggest horse racing events in the Baltics.
