Tuesday’s Best Bets from UK & Ireland

Flat racing holds sway in the UK on Tuesday with three meetings taking place across the afternoon and evening, with the action coming from Lingfield, Nottingham and Hamilton.

My Tuesday horse racing tips include one for trainer Hugo Palmer, who has his stable in superb form and teams up with top pilot David Probert.

Today’s Horse Races

16:00 Nottingham – Solent Gateway @ 14/1

This race doesn’t look as strong as the ones that SOLENT GATEWAY has been contesting recently and he might be capable of taking advantage of a significant drop in class.

The Hugo Palmer-trained six-year-old has become inconsistent and his last three performances have been disappointing, resulting in heavy defeats every time.

However, this is a weaker race and he proved he retains ability when finishing second behind the well-handicapped winner Divine Comedy in a red-hot handicap at Haydock in May.

Divine Comedy went on to finish second at Royal Ascot and Solent Gateway was clear of the remainder. A reproduction of that run, off a 2lb lower mark, would give him a chance.

He gets in off 2lb above the ceiling in this 0-85 and David Probert is a positive jockey booking for the Palmer team. The rider has a 16 per cent strike rate when booked for the stable in recent years.

This is an Extra Place Race so Betfred will be paying 3 Places instead of 2 at 1/5 Odds.

16:30 Nottingham – Tourist @ 11/4

There aren’t many more consistent performers in training than TOURIST and the in-form three-year-old still looks well handicapped off a mark just 4lb higher than for his last win.

The Hilal Kobeissi-trained runner has recorded form figures reading 332412 on his last six outings and followed his victory at Doncaster two starts ago with a short-head second at that track last time. Both of those runs came over this 6f trip and Doncaster is a similar course.

The winner last time, Kings Merchant, was a close second at Ripon off a 3lb higher mark next time and that suggests that Tourist, who was clear of the third, can cope with another 2lb rise.

Clifford Lee was on board last time and has one winner, four seconds and two thirds from just eight rides for the Kobeissi stable. That suggests connections mean business again.

16:45 Lingfield – Manila Mist @ 18/1

They race on the turf at Lingfield and the closing 1m2f handicap can go to MANILA MIST, who has dropped to a handy mark and looks capable of taking full advantage.

The four-year-old is still a maiden after 12 starts but has been threatening to break her duck this year. She was a close second at Chelmsford in March off a mark 2lb higher than this and again filled the runner-up spot off 3lb higher at Bath in June, losing by a length and a half.

She put a disappointing run on the all-weather at this track behind her when returned to turf at Windsor last month, finishing only six lengths behind the winner in sixth. That was over a mile, which would have been an inadequate test, and the return to 1m2f here will suit her.

She races off a career-low mark of 55 in a first-time tongue strap and goes in a 0-55 for the first time. This will be easier than her recent assignments and looks like a good opportunity.
