WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University senior Sofia Fouces has been named the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association’s Preseason Player of the Year for field hockey, the league announced Monday morning.

Fouces started all 18 contests for the Hawks last season tallying a league-best 18 goals and 42 points – each of which ranked inside the top 10 nationally. In her first season in West Long Branch, she was no stranger to clutch goals with seven game winners and ended the season on a nine-game point streak. Her three multi-goal outings, including a hat trick versus Rider (Aug. 30), helped earn her CAA Offensive Player of the Year, All-CAA First Team, and NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team honors.

The Parana, Argentina native is joined by fellow senior Jess Tucker on the Preseason All-CAA Team. Tucker was second on the team with 22 points in 2023 – a mark that ranked sixth in the conference and earned her All-CAA First Team honors, as well.

Sophomores Jessie Eiselin and Anna Moors were named Honorable Mentions in the conference’s preseason release. Both finished as members of the CAA All-Rookie Team last season with Eiselin finishing high in the national ranks in several goalkeeping statistical categories.

In addition, Monmouth was picked to finish first by the league’s head coaches, finishing with 32 total points including three first-place votes. Drexel and William & Mary, the reigning CAA champion, each received two first-place votes and 28 total points in the poll.

The Hawks enter 2024 looking for their third consecutive CAA regular season title and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.
