Monday’s Best Bets from UK & Ireland

Flat racing takes centre stage on Monday as three of the four meetings across Britain and Ireland take place on the level. Ireland provides some National Hunt action, which ensures that there’s something to cater to everyone’s tastes. Kempton’s all-weather card kicks us off, swiftly followed by Ayr, before Ballinrobe and Windsor provide the evening action.

Among Monday’s horse racing tips is one for trainer Charlie Johnston who was successful over course and distance when last seen and there should be plenty more to come.

Today’s Horse Races

16:40 Ayr – Aviemore @ 3/1

Look out for Charlie Johnston’s runner AVIEMORE in Ayr’s feature race. It looks like a tight affair but we fancy this very unexposed handicapper to come out on top.

The son of Kodiac came very close to shedding his maiden tag in a 1m1f novice at Carlisle in May. Attempting to make it all on soft ground, the winner had a better turn of foot but he stuck to the task well and was beaten only by a head in second.

Johnston’s three-year-old filled the runner-up spot once again over the same course and distance next time, albeit by a much wider margin. Connections tried dropping him back to a mile for his handicap debut at Pontefract but the experiment didn’t quite go to plan.

The step up to 1m2f over course and distance last time did the trick and he showed a good attitude to come out on top by a neck. A 5lb rise would normally seem harsh for a narrow success but the front two were clear of the rest and is probably about right.

It shouldn’t be enough to prevent this very lightly raced handicapper from going in again, however, and there could be loads more to come on just his third handicap start.

19:10 Windsor – Amazonian Dream @ 12/1

One horse who certainly deserves to head into the winners’ enclosure in the feature contest of the day is AMAZONIAN DREAM and Rod Millman’s gelding can run his race once again.

He has been a regular fixture in the qualifiers for this series final and has managed to win two of them along the way. Needing the run when seventh on his seasonal debut, he got bogged down in the heavy ground next time.

His four course and distance starts since then have all come on good to firm ground and he’s been very consistent. Amazonian Dream bolted up off a 10lb lower mark in May and scored again off 4lb lower in July.

Palmar Bay got the better of him when he finished second last time out but it was a narrow defeat and Millman’s gelding is 2lb better off at the weights this time around. Victory may well be on the cards once again and it would be a well-deserved reward for his rock-solid consistency.

14:45 Kempton – Fior Di Bosco @ 9/2

William Haggas runs handicap debutante FIOR DI BOSCO in Kempton’s second race and the three-year-old can find any amount of improvement.

She has been switched between the Haggas and Karl Burke yards a few times in the last year and appears to have a settled home now. That should help her progression and she has shown small signs of improvement with each of her three starts to date.

The daughter of Too Darn Hot ran well for a long way in a decent 1m2f novice at Newbury last time out but appeared to run out of steam in the closing stages. Considering that, the drop back to a mile for her handicap debut here should suit her.

It’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her yet and 69 looks like a workable opening mark, with Tom Marquand set to take the ride.
