West of Scotland CC have two shots at glory this weekend during two days of showpiece T20 finals action.
On Saturday, the women’s team will be out to retain the Beyond Boundaries T20 Scottish Cup title they won last year in this year’s finals day at Stirling.
Then, twenty-four hours later at the same venue, the men will bid to take home the trophy in their own T20 Scottish Cup finals day.
West women will play East Kilbride in Saturday’s semi-final, and skipper Nadia Tolliday said: “It’s very exciting for the club to have such a big weekend. I’m hoping that both teams can inspire each other to bring home some silverware.
“This season has been a little different for us, as we have had some new players come into the team and it has been great to see them all slot in and make themselves an integral part of the team. I can’t wait for us to grow as a team together and improve next year.
“This is my second year of captaining the West women. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time captaining and love being on the pitch with my team. I’ve had Beth [Haley] by my side as my vice-captain helping with decisions and behind the scenes organising which makes my life a lot easier.”
The men’s team beat Uddingston in the Rowan Cup final in July to reach this stage. On Sunday, they will be up against Falkland, who’ve also reached this year’s 50-over Scottish Cup Final, in their semi-final.
Former Scotland spinner and current national team assistant coach Moneeb Iqbal will captain West on Sunday, and said: “It is exciting for the club to have two teams involved on finals weekend, and we have worked really hard to get into this place.
“It’s been a good year in T20 cricket for us, while in particular David McNulty, many others and, of course, the players have done very well to grow the women’s team into what it is now.”
Regular West captain James Fennah is currently away, and Iqbal was keen to point out what a great job the former has done with the team to help them get into this position.
“In terms of our hopes on Sunday, the team are very excited to participate and we are looking forward to putting on a show hopefully.
“As players these are the kind of occasions that you embrace and enjoy, so we cannot wait.”
All of the action from across the weekend will be broadcast live on the Cricket Scotland YouTube channel.
