“The interest in this sport is growing as online viewership has more than doubled year over year since 2021,” said local horseman Nathan Bain.

This year marks the 11th season of harness racing at Leamington Raceway, Canada’s southernmost harness horse racing track, since re-opening in 2013.

Bain, who is also Leamington’s track announcer, said he is anticipating a record season.

“Not only does Leamington Raceway stream a lively online broadcast weekly, but we also boast engaging on-track events every Sunday for 13 weeks, in addition to the thrill of live racing.”

Racing enthusiasts can look forward to weekly events and on-site as well as online betting throughout the season.

The track will host several special events this year, including the Bob McIntosh Memorial Feature, a day honouring the legacy of the late standardbred horse trainer.

Kids Day is set for September 1 and will include activities, a bike giveaway and plenty more excitement for younger fans. Caretaker Day is on September 8 to recognize the hard-working individuals behind the scenes.

Wiener Dog Races, which organizers say is a crowd favourite, will be held on October 6.
