Former England international cricket player Mark Butcher has bizarrely denied landing a new job coaching in the United States, despite the organisation already announcing his capture.
Social media is popularly used by sports teams to unveil new signings and management changes, with an official announcement by a team often the final confirmation of an appointment.
However, on this occasion that wasn’t the case after the National Cricket League USA posted on X that Butcher had joined the company as their new head coach for upcoming matches.
Telling their followers on the social media platform, the cricket organisation stated: ‘We’re excited to welcome Mark Alan Butcher to the National Cricket League USA as our new head coach! Get ready for expert coaching and thrilling matches!’ alongside a picture of the ex-England star.
Butcher was clearly taken back by the revelation as he quickly replied to the post with a three-word explanation, adding: ‘News to me!!’.

During his playing career, Butcher broke into the England side in 1997 and looked to cement his place as an opening batsman and going on to star against South Africa and Australia with stunning centuries in the following two-years.
The 51-year-old went on to make 71 Test appearances for England, scoring a total of 4288 runs before retiring from international duty in 2004.
Legendary England pace bowler Stuart Broad was amongst those to see the funny side in Butcher’s incorrect new job post, comically stating: ‘Good luck coach!!’ in response.
‘Does Mark Butcher know he has a new job?’ said another comment poking fun at the American organisation’s original post.

Butcher was present at Old Trafford cricket ground on Tuesday
Meanwhile, Butcher was present at Old Trafford cricket ground on Tuesday where he issued an emotional tribute to former team-mate and England legend Graham Thorpe who passed away on Monday.
Thorpe spent 17 years at Surrey plying his trade alongside Butcher, where the pair helped the side win three County Championships in four seasons between 1999 and 2002.
‘He [Thorpe] was a hero to me, a lefthanded youngster at Surrey, he’s already been on the England A tours and was the up-and-coming thing,’ Butcher explained on Sky Sports. ‘We shared a dressing room at the Oval for many many years.’
‘I learnt an incredible amount from him as a player but also as a friend, and I’m devastated. Just horrendous news and I just hope that he’s in a better place now, that’s all.’
