Colonial Downs moved its live racing on Thursday and Friday to Monday and Tuesday, with a decision expected to be made Wednesday on Saturday’s Arlington Million card.
The decision to reschedule was made because of the possibility that tropical storm Debby could lead to adverse racing conditions and because of safety concerns for those shipping in or traveling to participate, according to a news release from the track.
Colonial Downs said it was working closely with experts in the field to determine whether the risk
of heavy rain will impact the timing of the Saturday’s card, which includes the Grade 1 Arlington Million. A
decision on those scheduled races is expected by 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, when more accurate data is available.
Colonial Downs is about 26 miles east of Richmond Va., in New Kent County. The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday and Friday called for an 80 percent chance of rain with up to one inch possible each day.
There’s a 40 percent chance of precipitation on Saturday, but the forecast also said it will be partly sunny with a high near 85 degrees.
