ELON, N.C. – Elon University head volleyball coach Mary Tendler announced on Monday that she has added Haylie Clark to her staff as an assistant coach.

“We welcome Haylie back to Elon as a part of our coaching staff!  After spending five years at Elon as a student-athlete, her perspective will be very insightful and helpful to current players and recruits,” said Tendler. “Besides being an accomplished volleyball player, she has taken the right steps to learn and grow as a coach.  Her passion for the sport and her strong desire to win will be very evident as she begins her new role at Elon.”

Clark was most recently the assistant coach at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. In the role, Clark focused on coaching setters, implementing the team’s offense and oversaw travel logistics. The Bison put together a 15-11 record last season while going 11-5 in conference play and making it to the Patriot League Quarterfinals.

“I want to thank Coach Tendler and the athletic department for this incredible opportunity. As an alumna returning to coach at my alma mater, I am deeply grateful and excited to contribute to Elon’s volleyball program,” Clark said. “I look forward to helping our student-athletes achieve their goals both on and off the court, and to being a part of the continued success of the program that played such a pivotal role in my own development.”

Clark played volleyball at Elon University under Coach Tendler from 2018 to 2022. During her time there, she earned numerous accolades, including being named to the 2022 All-CAA Second Team, the 2021 CAA Championship All-Tournament Team, the 2021 All-CAA Second Team, and being honored as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on October 4, 2021. Her most distinguished achievement was receiving the 2021 CAA Setter of the Year award.

Clark amassed 349 kills, 879 digs, 142 blocks, and 113 service aces during her time at Elon. Her 2,838 assists rank fifth in the university’s all-time records. She also recorded 37 double-doubles throughout her career. In the standout 2021 season, where Elon finished 17-11 and reached the CAA Tournament Championship game, Clark led the team in aces and assists, and finished third on the team in blocks and digs.

Clark graduated from Elon in 2022 with a major in Sports Management and a minor in Business & Marketing.
