Ishan Kishan has decided to return to domestic cricket.

Earlier, he was excluded from BCCI’s central contract list after ignoring domestic cricket.

India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is poised to make a return to domestic cricket after facing a BCCI snub for skipping the previous season of the Ranji Trophy. The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has included him in their pre-season probables list, signaling a potential comeback.

Ishan Kishan set for domestic Comeback

As per Cricbuzz, Ishan Kishan has committed to playing for Jharkhand in the upcoming season and is even being considered for a leadership role. While the exact details are yet to be finalised, his inclusion in the state squad is confirmed.

Ishan Kishan’s Decision Influenced by Advisers

Ishan Kishan’s decision to return to domestic cricket was reportedly influenced by advice from well-wishers and national selectors. These individuals emphasized the potential impact of missing out on crucial international opportunities during his peak years. Despite playing two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is between July 2021 and November 2023, including a double century and a World Cup appearance, Kishan seems to have recognized the importance of consistent domestic performance.

Ishan Kishan’s Rebellion and Subsequent Fallout

Ishan Kishan defied instructions from the BCCI and national selectors by refusing to play for Jharkhand last season. Instead, he focused solely on the IPL, training at an academy in Baroda. His last international appearance was in November 2023, followed by a controversial departure from the Indian team in South Africa the following December. Reports suggest that Kishan’s frustration stemmed from being sidelined in favor of KL Rahul, a part-time wicket-keeper. As a result of his actions, Kishan was excluded from the BCCI’s central contracts.

Kishan’s Road Back to National Team

The upcoming Duleep Trophy, commencing on September 5, marks the start of the domestic season. However, Ishan Kishan is unlikely to be considered for this tournament due to his previous refusal to play for Jharkhand.

Kishan’s path back to the national team is likely to involve consistent performances for his state. This approach mirrors the case of Shreyas Iyer, who earned a recall to the Indian team after impressing in domestic cricket. Iyer’s inclusion in the Sri Lanka tour, following his omission from central contracts, highlights the importance of domestic cricket as a pathway to international selection.
