MALIBU, Calif. – After a pair of NCAA Finals appearances the past two seasons, the Pepperdine women’s golf team announced its 2024-25 schedule today, as the Waves attempt to return to the NCAA Championships for the 15th time in program history and third-consecutive season.
“We will have a young team led by three experienced players in senior Lauren Gomez and juniors Jeneath Wong and Yingzhi “Jenny” Zhu,” said Head Coach Laurie Gibbs. “Coach Kacey and I are excited to play a strong schedule at excellent courses. Our players will improve throughout the season and be ready to return to match play at the NCAA Championship next May at La Costa. GO Waves!”
The Waves are coming off their 25th-straight NCAA Regional appearance and the program’s 14th all-time NCAA Finals showing in 2024. Pepperdine also won the program’s 21st WCC Championship in the last 26 years last season. The squad will return five solid players, including two-time All-American junior and 2024 WCC Player of the Year, Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia), and two-time WCC Championship medalist and 2022 WCC Player of the Year senior, Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.). Wong and Gomez, as well as junior Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China), all return after having competed in the last two-consecutive NCAA Championships.
Lauren, Jeneath and Yingzhi played great this summer in the top national amateur tournaments. Lauren finished an impressive sixth at the Canadian Women’s Amateur against a strong field shooting four rounds of par or better. Yingzhi won the FCG Collegiate yesterday wire to wire at 7 under par. Last week Jeneath finished in 8th at the LNGA in Arkansas shooting 66-68 the final two rounds.
Earlier in the summer Lauren, Jeneath and Yingzhi traveled together to Pinehurst, N.C. for the Women’s North & South. All three qualified for match play after the large field of 120 was cut to 32. Lauren also finished fifth at the SCGA Women’s Amateur as she and Jeneath started the summer with 17th and 12th place finishes, respectively, at the Southwestern Amateur in Arizona.
Also returning are senior KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China) and sophomore Helen Chu (Guangzhou, China).
Additionally, the Waves have welcomed three impressive freshmen joining the ranks in Malibu with Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) Eunseo Choi (Auckland, New Zealand) and Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India).
