WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW Board of Trustees approved a contract extension on Thursday for head baseball coach Randy Hood, which will keep him with the program through the 2029 season.
“Coach Hood continues to do an excellent job leading the program and this extension is a reflection of the heights the program has achieved both on the field and in the classroom,” said Michael Oblinger, UNCW’s Director of Athletics.
The Seahawks captured their second straight Coastal Athletic Association tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the 12th time in program history, all coming since 2003.
“I’d like to thank the Board of Trustees and Michael Oblinger for showing their confidence in me and sharing my vision of what the program can be,’ said Hood, who begins his sixth year at the lead of the program in 2024-25.
UNCW swept through the CAA Tournament, including a pair of wins over top-seeded College of Charleston, in the final weekend of baseball at Brooks Field. Renovations on the field will begin the first week in August.
Tanner Thach was honored as the league’s Co-Most Valuable Player and six Seahawks earned All-CAA honors, including five on the first team. Thach also earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The Seahawks were the second-seed at the Athens Regional and opened the regional with a 9-0 blanking of Georgia Tech.
UNCW posted a 40-21 record, marking the program’s eighth 40-win season and the first since 2016.
Luke Craig and RJ Sales were selected in the seventh and 10th rounds, respectively, of the Major League Baseball Draft. Jacob Shafer went in the 17th round.
In the classroom, the Seahawks were honored for the fifth straight season by the American Baseball Coaches Association with the Team Academic Excellence Award. Jac Croom and Trace Baker were honored as Academic All-District honorees by the Collegiate Sports Communicators.
