Our horse racing tipster provides his best bets for the final day of Glorious Goodwood, including a look at the big field in the Stewards’ Cup.
Dancing In Paris (2:25pm, Summer Handicap)
Four-year-old gelding Dancing In Paris has been much-improved since being tried over longer distances. He delivered a career-best performance three weeks ago at Ascot, when he stayed on well to just out-battle subsequent winner Tactician and claim victory.
He found 2m to be a bit too far in his most recent start two weeks ago at Newbury, when he finished fourth. Returned to 1m 6f here, he remains incredibly well-weighted and unexposed as a stayer, and he can take full advantage of receiving weight from all but one of his rivals to dance to victory.
Caius Chorister (3pm, Lillie Langtry Stakes)
Caius Chorister has come a long way since finishing sixth of eight off a rating of 56 on handicap debut at Lingfield two years ago. She has won or placed in four out of her last five Class 1 starts, with the only blip being her most recent run at Royal Ascot in June where she found the Group 1 Gold Cup too tough an ask.
The five-year-old mare can be forgiven that run as the 2m4f was not ideal, and any hopes of victory were ended by a keen rin. Dropped back to 1m6f here, and slightly eased in grade, she is more than capable of delivering a career best performance to win the £170,000 first place prize money.
Ramazan (3:35pm, Stewards’ Cup)
Ramazan is the joint top-weight for this heritage handicap race and a fairly big price, but hopes of victory should not be written off.
Second in last year’s Ayr Gold Cup, he has come second twice this year as well, with his best performance coming in the Victoria Cup at Ascot back in May. He was racing off the same rating as today and he only narrowly missed out on victory, losing by a head on the line. The four-year-old gelding was disappointing in his two most recent starts in Group 3 races, but excuses can be made for those reuns. Now returned to handicapping he is well worth an each way bet, particularly with extra places on offer.
