Register before August 16 to participate in the annual Cochrane Crusher gravel cycling event happening on August 18.
Cochrane Crusher Gravel cycling event makes its 3rd annual return on August 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., where bikers can experience the beautiful scenery of the Foothill’s Region just 20 minutes north of Cochrane.
“The whole gravel cycling arena became very popular in the last five years,” said the organizer of the Cochrane Crusher Robert Martens, “There are people who do nothing but gravel cycling and racing, and they go all over Canada to do this.”
The biking course is on a rolling terrain, consisting of 94 per cent gravel for a total of 559 m (1,834 ft) climbing per 50 km lap.
Participants looking to do the Cochrane Crusher will have the option to race 50 km, or two laps on the same course for a total of 100 km. They can also opt for the fondo recreational ride of 50 km on the same course.
“It’s a combination of people that really wanna try it with the shorter distance to see if it’s something they would like, then I’ve seen quite a few that have came back every year ever since.” said Martens.
Participants are encouraged to bring a volunteer and receive a $25.00 discount, or they can choose to donate their contribution to the Cochrane Women’s Shelter. Each volunteer will enter for a raffle prize and is eligible to win a Garmin Forerunner 165M watch.
After the ride, bikers can enjoy a well deserved BBQ party at the finish presented by GlenGary Bison.
“There’s lots of people that ride for the first time, so you always create a bit of camaraderie out there amongst people,” said Martens.
Whether you’re looking to try out Gravel cycling for the first time, or you’re an experienced gravel cyclist, the Cochrane Crusher is a great opportunity to get out there and experience it within the local scenery.
