ITA Academic Award Recipients

Hempstead, NY – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2024 Scholar-Athletes and the Hofstra University women’s tennis program placed eight student-athletes on the squad. The Pride also earned ITA All-Academic Team honors, for the the 13th consecutive year. 

Simran Desai, Lea Forste-Dinell, Kaitlyn Ferguson, Abigail Higgins, Sabira Mohamed, Deniz Soyer, Ava Veneziano, and Ciyin Zhang picked up the honor for the Pride. Desai and Zhang are now four-time honorees, while Ferguson, Higgins, and Soyer have earned the recognition for the third time in their careers. 

In 2024, 1,573 Division I women’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 255 women’s tennis programs were awarded the All-American distinction. 

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year. 

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors a player must meet the following criteria: have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
