The Olympics delivered a first full day of action at Paris 2024 and day two promises plenty more thrills and spills.
Simone Biles made her highly-anticipated return in the women’s gymnastics after experiencing ‘the twisties’ at the Tokyo Games, delivering a stunning and historic routine in qualifying while also sparking injury concerns after she was seen limping and wearing strapping on her left leg.
Later, it could be a historic day in the pool, with Adam Peaty cruising into the final of the men’s 100m breaststroke in his bid to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals. French phenom Leon Marchand is safely through in the men’s 400m IM, with Team GB’s Max Litchfield qualifying in second at La Defense Arena.
Elsewhere, Andy Murray could play the final match of his career alongside Dan Evans in the men’s doubles, while Rafael Nadal will be looking to set up a sensational match with Novak Djokovic in the singles. USA’s basketball team, including LeBron James, also get their title defence underway.
But the water quality of the Seine continues to cause havoc for the triathlon, with practice scrapped on Sunday due to pollution after heavy rain in the city. Follow all the action, latest results and medals from Paris 2024 in our live blog below:

Olympics 2024 – Boulter loses in Paris first round
Jessica Pegula has come through her match so she’ll now face Elina Svitolina in the second round. USA’s Pegula beat Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in straight sets, 6-3 6-4.
It’s bad news for Team GB however, with Katie Boulter exiting the women’s singles. She has been beaten 6-2 6-4 by Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia on court 11, a disappointing result for the Brit.
Still ahead in the women’s singles today, Coco Gauff will face Alja Tomljanovic and there’s a meeting on court 14 to look forward to between Leylah Fernandez and Karolina Muchova.

Olympics 2024: Nadal still behind in second set
The party atmosphere has fallen a little flat in Court Philippe-Chatrier, as Nadal faces a proper battle to get back into this second set. Fucsovics strikes ahead to lead 4-2 in the second set, holding off a charging Nadal who got back to deuce behind an excellent drop shot and pass down the line.
Could we be heading for a third set?

Olympics 2024: Nadal broken in start of second set
A bit of an untidy game from Nadal, who spurns the chance to win game point before he is broken by Fucsovics at the start of the second set. It’s an early set-back for the Spaniard to overcome.

Olympics 2024: Evans wins after injury scare
Elsewhere in the men’s tennis, Team GB athlete Dan Evans overcome an earlier fall and possible injury to win by two sets to one against Tunisian Moez Echargui, 6-2 4-6 6-2.
Evans is in action later this evening with Andy Murray in the doubles so the Scot will doubtless be pleased to see his partner recover and win in style!

Olympics 2024: Nadal wins first set against Fucsovics
First set for Nadal! Sealed with a backhand winner crosscourt. The 13-time French Open champion looks like he is getting back to winning ways in the singles on his old fortress Court Philippe-Chatier, after his defeat to Alexander Zverev at this season’s Roland Garros.
There’s a party atmosphere here – but if Nadal were to play Novak Djokovic in the second round… well that would be a battle for sure.

Olympics 2024: Nadal starts against Fucsovics in men’s singles tennis
There are some vintage flashes of Nadal here, as the King of Clay returns to Roland Garros. The crowd here are lovely the heavy Nadal forehands, and the grunts of pure power.
And just like that, Nadal powers a forehand winner down the line to break Fucsovics for the second time in his opening set, as the Spaniard pumps his fist.

The devastating way Olympic hopes can end – only minutes after Games begin
Chelsie Giles was left dazed and lost for words after her Olympic Games started and ended in just a handful of minutes.
Three years ago, Giles flew under the radar and claimed Team GB’s first medal in Tokyo with women’s judo bronze in the 52kg category.
It provided the breakthrough this former swimmer, dancer and gymnast needed, becoming the world number one the next year, while taking world silver and winning the European title.
There was no coming in quietly in Paris 2024: the hype was real and deserved after reaching the podium in seven of the ten top-tier Grand Slam events she has entered.
Some Olympic events go on for a long time; the sailing regatta, which began today in Marseille, features multiple races over multiple days and lasts hours. Get something wrong, there’s another chance to correct it, you can even discard a bad performance, a nautical mulligan. There is no Olympic do-over in judo and Giles’s Games were over in the blink of an eye – or six minutes and six seconds to be precise.

Olympics 2024: Nadal starts against Fucsovics in men’s singles tennis
There had been concern he would withdraw, then we’ve had a long old wait for the match to actually start – but Rafa Nadal, the king of clay, is here at Roland Garros and in action against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.
The Spaniard duly won the first point to enormous cheers from the stands – but there’s no doubt he’s got his work cut out for him physically today after playing doules at the Games already.

Men’s tennis: Rafa Nadal set to start, Jack Draper wins
Jack Draper has won his first-round match against Japanese opponent Kei Nishikori, 6-1 6-4 on Court 12 in the men’s singles tennis.
And right now, fellow Team GB member Dan Evans is also winning, 6-2 in the first set and currently 4-5 in the second against Moez Echargui of Tunisia.
But Evans has also taken a fall and hurt both knee and wrist by the looks of things and has needed some treatment before continuing.
Evans is due to play doubles with Andy Murray in the Scot’s last event of his career.

Olympics 2024: Women’s cross country mountain biking
There’s now just a single rider within two minutes of Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, Puck Pieterse 90 seconds behind and out of the saddle as she tries to shave some of those seconds away. The prospect of two French medals seems to have gone after Loana Lecomte crashed heavily in a worrying incident. It looked a nasty one for the 24-year-old, whose race appears to be over.
