“The International Disability Inclusion Conference: Harnessing the transformational impact of Para sport” aims to inspire policy changes and increase investments to advance the effective implementation of policies, programmes and practices that foster disability inclusion in and through sport.
Disability inclusion is a crucial cross-cutting component of UNESCO’s Fit for Life sport flagship, as established at the Seventh International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII). The conference will spotlight the pivotal role of Para sport in fostering inclusivity for persons with disabilities, who account for over 15% of the global population.
The conference will be structured around:
A Multistakeholder Forum (27 August – room II), featuring thematic sessions on Para sport and physical activity; accessible infrastructure and equipment; physical education and play; representation and visibility; and data collection and research. Discussions will identify challenges and showcase good practices and innovative solutions to remove existing barriers for inclusive and accessible sport opportunities.
A Head of States and Ministerial Meeting (on the morning of 28 August – room I). This session will bring together Heads of State, Ministers of Sport, Inclusion and Equality, other governmental authorities and development banks to agree on concrete steps that will foster the disability inclusion agenda in and through sport.
By harnessing the collective efforts of governments, private sector entities, sports organizations, and advocates, the conference aims to propel forward a global movement within the Fit for Life Alliance, dedicated to realizing the full potential of Para sport as a catalyst for social change and inclusion.
