ITA Women’s Academic Awards
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women’s tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association both as a team and individually for their high achievement in the classroom this season. The team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the ninth straight year, while six Union student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors as well.
The squad made it nine years in a row as an All-Academic Team after another superlative effort in the classroom, posting a team GPA of 3.654 for the 2023-24 school year. The team comfortably exceeded the minimum requirements of a cumulative 3.20 GPA on a 4.00 scale for all varsity letter winners and are one of 167 Division III women’s tennis teams to be recognized this season. Among Union players, honors achieved this year include a pair of perfect 4.0 GPAs, two Phi Beta Kappa inductees, a Senior Class salutatorian, an Award for Academic Excellence selection and a Sophomore Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Union had six student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes, recognizing varsity letter winners with a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year. Seniors Kate Hirnak and Gracie Nicol both earned the honor for the maximum fourth straight season to lead the team. Junior Paige Tromblee was both recognized for the third year in a row, while sophomores Kennedy Alexis, Sydney Alphabet and Skylar Semon all earned the recognition for the second time in as many years.
Union also saw record-setting success on the court in 2023-24 as well, earning its first postseason victory in more than two decades and winning a program-record 11 matches to give Union back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time since 1999 and 2000. Union also earned the first national ranking in program history with a #50 rank from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and was regionally ranked by the NCAA in every ranking this spring.
