Ulster Rugby have given a long-standing supporter a complimentary additional season ticket after he lost his wife to cancer.

Stephen McCormick had been attending games with his wife Julie before she lost her battle with ovarian cancer.

He recently posted on X that he had purchased a single season ticket to continue to attend games.

Ulster then got in contact and arranged an extra season ticket so that McCormick can bring someone with him to games to “mitigate any sense of him ‘being on his own’”.

Again, posting on X, McCormick said he was “overwhelmed at their thoughtfulness”.

Ulster Rugby ‘wanted to show their support’

In a club statement, Ulster Rugby said that they offered him the additional season ticket as they, “wanted to show our support for him, and his awareness-raising for ovarian cancer”.

“We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Stephen’s wife, Julie. As Stephen and Julie were long-standing Ulster Rugby season ticket holders, the club recognised that it was a difficult decision for Stephen to renew his ticket for the 2024/25 season,” the statement continued.

“Having an extra ticket means Stephen can always have someone accompany him to matches this season.

“We know that our fans in the Nevin Spence Memorial Stand will stand alongside Stephen in the season ahead and embody what it truly means to be an Ulster Rugby supporter, and part of that Ulster Rugby family.”
