Check out our tips and best bets for Saturday’s racing around Australia, including meetings at Caulfield, Randwick, Doomben, Belmont and Morphettville.
BEST BETS
Caulfield Race 8 No.2 Jimmy The Bear
Jimmy The Bear (2) broke a little drought with a dominant win at Mildura last start. He’s even better suited over 1600m and Egan has options from barrier two. He’s won 2 from 3 over the Caulfield mile.
Billy Egan (59.5kg)
Patrick Payne
5yoG (ch) Jimmy Creed x Belvedere Road
Randwick Race 8 No.4 Kerguelen
Kerguelen (4) might be a carnival horse and he showed that on debut when winning by nearly 10 lengths at Kembla. Might just see the best of him on a drying track and he gets the services of J-Mac for the first time. Up in grade but looks a class act.
James Mc Donald (59kg)
James Cummings
3yoG (b) Lonhro x Zeehan
Doomben Race 6 No.6 Caboche
Sydney Saturday form is with Caboche (6) which is fitter for two outings and when last here bolted in by four lengths leaving ROGUE BEAR (10) trailing in his wake. He carries 2.5kg less in slightly higher grade and with Jim Orman is the one to beat.
James Orman (57kg)
Chris Waller
5yoG (b) Vadamos x Floramour
BEST VALUE
Caulfield Race 2 No.2 Azeezle
Azeezle (2) has a wide gate to overcome but the form around him is easy to like. He was 4th in a hot form race on debut, with all three horses that finished in front of him – Ania, The Heir and Landmark – all either winning or running very well in subsequent outings. The Freedman colt enjoyed a soft kill on the Ballarat Synthetic last start, beating Trevenson who then bolted in at his next start.
Jye McNeil (57kg)
A & S Freedman
2yoC (b) Exceed And Excel x Elzeeza
Randwick Race 5 No.8 Taormina
Seems like a suitable race for Taormina (8) to kick off in. Showed a bit of promise early on when winning her first two starts, beating the likes of Arctic Glamour and Inhibitions, but has had a few issues and now returns following three trials. All have been good and the stable has tinkered with the fear, taking blinkers off and applying a tongue tie. Should lead and give a sight at double figures.
Rachel King (56.5kg)
G & A Waterhouse & Bott
3yoF (ch) Written Tycoon x Infra Dig
Doomben Race 3 No.3 Ready Azz Eva
There is improvement with Ready Azz Eva (3) which made ground from a wide gate on a heavy track when resuming at Eagle Farm. She won her only previous start over this trip here and will hit the line for Jag Guthmann-Chester.
Jag Guthmann-Chester (60kg)
Robert Heathcote
4yoG (b) Better Than Ready x Azzareya
