If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and tune into the Summer Olympics and watch the men’s Rugby Sevens semifinals on Saturday.
These matches feature two seven-minute halves and typically plenty of action. Thursday’s quarterfinals set a single-day attendance record of more than 130,000 for two sessions at Stade de France, which unlike many Olympic venues was packed.
Team USA was bounced in the quarterfinal round by Australia, 18-0. Saturday’s semifinals begin at 9:30 a.m. ET with host country France taking on South Africa.

Fiji vs. Australia

Fiji won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games, which were actually held in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. Fiji eked out a 19-15 win over Ireland in the quarterfinals to extend its Olympic winning streak to 16 matches.
Fiji overcame an eight-point deficit — its largest of the tournament — with tries by Joji Nasova and Waisea Nacuqu. Fiji has reached the semifinal for third consecutive Olympics.
Australia had little trouble in moving past Team USA. Maurice Longbottom kicked a penalty and scored a late try in a match that was never in doubt. Australia has advanced to its first-ever Olympic semifinals.
The Australians are a massive underdog against Fiji, which is laying -8.5 on the spread. The total is set at 30.5 points.
Fiji and France appear to be on a collision course to meet in the gold medal match later on Saturday, but we’re backing the Aussies on the spread. Ireland may have provided a blueprint on how to keep this match close.
