Man arrested, accused of not installing swimming pools after being paid

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A Richlands man was arrested July 21 on two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Sandy Kyle Mobley, 32, was charged after the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office received complaints about a contractor failing to install a swimming pool after being paid.

One person said Mobley was paid $6,825 to begin the installation on May 15. They said he failed to start on that date and put off the installation until a later date and didn’t start then either and refused to refund the money or do any of the work.

An investigation found that another person came forward and said on Aug. 2, 2023, she paid Mobley $15,000 to install a semi-inground pool at her home. Mobley again pushed the install date to Nov. 6, 2023, but never followed through on installing the pool.

Mobley was jailed without bond and then given a $5,000 secured bond after his first day in court.

Anyone with information about these cases may contact Det. D. Spikes at 910-455-3113 or Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273.
