KENT, Ohio — Kent State University alumni Corey Conners, Chris Ortiz and Danniel Thomas-Dodd will compete on the world stage at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

This is the 11th consecutive Summer Olympic Games that Kent State will be represented by a current or former student-athlete, dating back to the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics.

Since 1948, the Golden Flashes have produced 19 Olympians, including a record five at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, who have combined for 29 appearances at the Games. Kent State alumni have totaled five medals—two gold, two silver and one bronze.

Corey Conners, Men’s Golf, Canada
Conners will compete in his second straight Olympics and looks to improve on a 13th-place finish in Tokyo. The 72-hole competition will be played at Le Golf National from Aug. 1-4.

Kent State alumnus Danny Sahl will serve as Conners’ caddie, while former Golden Flash David Markle will be on the bag for Canadian Nick Taylor.

Chris Ortiz, Men’s Basketball, Puerto Rico
Ortiz makes his Olympics debut after helping Puerto Rico earn its first spot in 20 years by winning the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament earlier in the month.

Puerto Rico was assigned to Group C and will play Serbia, South Sudan and the USA during the group phase starting on July 28. The top 8 teams will advance to the final phase, beginning with quarterfinal matchups on Aug. 6.

Danniel Thomas-Dodd, Women’s Shot Put, Jamaica
In her third Olympics, Thomas-Dodd hopes to advance to finals for the first time after missing out by just 0.2 meters in Tokyo. The Westmoreland native holds the No. 9 world ranking and owns the 11th best throw this year. The qualifying round will be held Aug. 8 with the finals scheduled for Aug. 9.
