Men’s football
There are 16 nations in the men’s Olympics football competition, divided into four groups of four in the round-robin phase with the top two from each section moving into the knockout quarter-finals.
But how did they get their places in the competition?
France qualified as hosts, with 14 of the other 15 nations coming through one of six qualifying events held around the world, while Guinea won an Asia-Africa play-off to be the last country to qualify.
Group A: France, Guinea, New Zealand, United States.
Group B: Argentina, Iraq, Morocco, Ukraine.
Group C: Dominican Republic, Egypt, Spain, Uzbekistan.
Group D: Israel, Japan, Mali, Paraguay.
Men’s teams are restricted to under-23 players (born on or after 1 January 2001) with a maximum of three overage players allowed.
