If you’re looking for an Olympian with local ties to root for in Paris, how about swimmer Regan Smith?
The 22-year-old is representing the United States in three individual events and one swimming relay. Smith’s grandmother Marge Moore calls Liberty Village in Peru her home. She’s also the niece of Lynn and Doug Rose of Oglesby and will also have cousins living in Oglesby and Peru cheering her on.
Smith is in search of gold in the 100m backstroke, 200m butterfly, and 200m backstroke along with the 4×100 medley relay. In the last Olympics in Tokyo, Regan won silver medals in the 200 butterfly and 4×100 relay and a bronze in the 100 backstroke.
She’s expected to hit the Olympic pool in Paris first on Monday.
