With thanks to coach Ryan McAllister, here’s trio of Scottish medallists in Birmingham – Scott Connal, Amy Kennedy and Murray Fotheringham (as well as Erin Campbell)

England Athletics Champs Results

Scottish athletes headed south to Birmingham to compete in the England Athletics Championships across three age categories.

And when the cohort returned home – with the vast majority back north of the Border – there was a sizeable medal haul to savour.

It was good to see such a wide range of medal-winning performances including sprint hurdles, steeplechase, jumps and throws.

We make it no fewer than seven gold medals across the Senior, U23 and U20 Champs including the Para events therein.

Javelin thrower Dawn Russell led the way at U23 level with gold thanks to a PB throw of 49.49m.

At U20 level, there were places on top of the podium for Scott Hopper (javelin), Reiss Marshall (3000m) and Angela McAuslan-Kelly (hammer).

Angela’s win should clinch her place in the GB and NI team for the World Juniors.

High jumper Matthew Tait took U20 silver medal while Henry Clarkson (pictured below with coach Linda Nicholson) landed silver in the Senior triple jump and Dawn Russell won U23 Women’s javelin gold (photos via Social Media)

Sammi Kinghorn and Kirsty Soutar delivered three gold medals in Para events in the wheelchair races and seated throws categories.

Rebecca Grieve‘s silver medal in U20 400m came via a run of 54.31 that is ninth in our U20 all-time list.

We send our warm congratulations to all Scottish athletes who made the trip south and to their coaches and support teams. Hopefully all will enjoy the benefits of experience of deeper competition – with our own Scottish National Champs coming up next month in Grangemouth.
