A 19-year-old man drowned Saturday in Lake Garrison in Gloucester County, according to the Elk Township police chief.

The Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man accidentally drowned, according to Elk Township Police Chief Lance Hitzelberger. The man was taken from the lake to Inspira Hospital in Mullica Hill, where he was pronounced dead, the chief said in a news release.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of the family, the release says.

Police were called at 2:08 p.m. Saturday to look for the missing swimmer, the news release says. His body was found 22 minutes later, it says.

The lake was closed Saturday and remains closed Sunday, according to its website.

The popular outdoor recreation spot is at 849 Buck Road in Elk Township.
